Titanium instruments
All Rumex ophthalmic instruments (except scissors) are available in titanium.
The advantages of titanium are:
- Titanium is a fully inert material and does not corrode;
- Titanium is not magnetic;
- Titanium is a very light metal 40% lighter than steel.
Diamond Knives
Diamond is the hardest material known to man. According to the Rosiwal Scale, a diamond has a hardness of 140 times that of a sapphire or ruby. For this reason, the diamond blade has longer cutting edge life as compared to ruby or sapphire blades.
Cutting with a diamond blade requires much less pressure than blades made of other materials. Rumex diamond knife blades are made from gem quality diamonds using our patented Thermo-Cut ® process. Unlike the old-fashioned method, which uses diamond wheels for mechanical diamond abrasion, we apply an oxygen-free medium (Hydrogen) and a very high temperature (up to 1500° C) to elaborate the cutting edges of the blade.
The advantages of this method are:
- We can sharpen very hard blue natural diamond, which last longer and is more unlikely to chip or break.
- The edges of the Thermo-Cut® blade are sharper as there are no mechanical chips even under the highest magnification.
- The Thermo-Cut® process can be used to make any shape of blade even a Facet-Free Crescent® or a Shoulder-Free Trapezoid®.
- The Thermo-Cut® method is less time consuming which means that you will get the best quality diamond blades with less expense.
Tungsten Carbide Overlay
All tying platforms and jaws of our forceps and needle holders are covered with Tungsten Carbide to ensure a very firm grip and durability.
The production of Rumex instruments is carried out in our factory equipped with the qualified instrument specialists. Rumex International's quality management system is certified by the TUV CERT Certification Body of TUV Thuringen e.V., on certificate Registration No. 15 100 0887 and Rumex is registered with the FDA in the United States to comply with world wide quality standards. As a result, all Rumex instruments are warranted for life against defects in workmanship and material.
